If you're a construction contractor fleet owner or operator interested in transportation insurance, contact your agent or broker for a quote from RLI.

Contractor-specific criteria

  • $10,000 minimum premium
  • Fleets can include: private passenger, light/medium trucks, heavy trucks, extra-heavy trucks or tractor trailers.
  • Accounts with low or incidental heavy truck and extra-heavy truck exposure are preferable but we will consider risks with these units.
  • Any modifications or permanently attached equipment must be disclosed on the submission such as: cranes, dump beds, water pumps, claw arms, cement-mixers.
  • Local/intermediate radius is preferred.

Additional coverages

  • Hired and non-owned liability
  • Can be standalone or in addition to fleet coverage. Standalone hired & non-owned is not available in: ME, MT, TX, MA, LA, HI, NY, NM and AK
  • Accounts with large non-owned exposure is preferred

Submission clearance requirements

  • ACORD 125 and ACORD 137
  • Completed RLI Contractor Questionnaire
  • Vehicle Schedule with garaging city/state, year/make/model, specific use, seating capacity, disclosure of any modifications or permanently attached equipment and stated amount values (in Microsoft Excel format, if possible)
  • 4 years of currently valued hard copy loss runs with details on all losses over $25k
  • Drivers list with date of birth, date of hire, driver’s license number and state (in Microsoft Excel format, if possible)

Additional requirements

  • Two most recent year-end, audited financial statements, balance sheet and income statement
  • Current MVRs for all drivers
  • Acceptable loss control inspection or digital risk review, completed and reviewed by our internal loss control team.

If financial statements do not meet RLI minimum guidelines, we will not be able to offer a quote. We may be able to waive financial requirements if annualized premiums are under $250,000 with an average or above average loss control rating. Fleet mix must consist of no more than incidental extra-heavy vehicles.

  • Accounts consisting solely of heavy/extra heavy units including but not limited to: bucket trucks; cherry pickers; cranes; dump trucks; cement mixers; and tractor trailers
  • Accounts with beyond incidental recycling, waste, sand, aggregate, dirt and gravel hauling
  • Accounts that require federal filings are
  • Accounts with both frequency and severity issues
  • Accounts with explosive or hazmat exposure
  • Insureds with less than one year of operating experience
  • Accounts with large seasonal exposure
  • Large, independent contractor exposures
